Trip Overview
Construction, disaster relief and environmental conservation are among the most in demand service themes worldwide, and Jamaica’s north coast offers all three in a single program. In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, communities around Montego Bay are rebuilding, and the coastline that sustains them needs care. This ten day program lets students contribute to both.
Based at The Atrium at Ironshore, students work shoulder to shoulder with local schools and community partners on recovery and rebuilding, then turn to coastal and environmental stewardship with beach restoration and conservation activity. The program is framed around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and built on servant leadership: students reflect daily on what resilience looks like in practice and on what they receive from the communities that host them, not only what they give.

The Atrium at Ironshore, Montego Bay
A GSA homebase on the north coast at Ironshore, within reach of Montego Bay's schools, communities and coastline. The Atrium offers a relaxed, social environment with communal spaces well suited to group debriefs and reflection, and a secure, supervised setting for service learning groups working across recovery and conservation sites.
