Trip Overview
Education is the most requested theme in volunteer travel worldwide, because the work is meaningful, the impact is visible and the exchange between visiting and local students changes everyone involved. This eight day program places that exchange at its center. Based at the Tan y Bryn homebase in the cool highlands of Manchester, students live close to rural Jamaican life and work alongside local pupils, teachers and a children’s home. Days are built around literacy and numeracy support, mentorship, sports clinics and light facility improvement, balanced with the cultural experiences that make the connection real: a cooking class, drumming, farming and a waterfall adventure. The heart of the program is integration. Visiting and Jamaican students learn from one another, and the service is designed as genuine partnership rather than charity.

Tan y Bryn Estate, Manchester
A GSA homebase in the highlands of Manchester and a sister property to the Smokey Manor origin point. Tan y Bryn offers a warm, family run setting where groups eat together, gather in communal spaces and live within the rhythm of the surrounding farming community. Hearty home cooked meals, a safe and supervised environment and direct ties to local schools and partners make it ideal for service learning groups, including larger cohorts.
